He was born on August 5, 1962, in Virginia. Baldacci's writing career began when his mother gave him a notebook, and he started writing short stories and even movie scripts.

Despite his passion for writing, Baldacci decided to pursue a career in law and attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a law degree.
After working as a lawyer in Washington, Baldacci started writing again, initially with short stories and then moving on to a full-length book.
In 1996, his debut novel, "Absolute Power," was published. The thriller tells the story of a burglar who witnesses a violent encounter between the mistress of a wealthy homeowner and the fictional U.S. President. The book became a national bestseller, reaching the second spot on The New York Times' list.
It was later adapted into
